Flaps Theatre Pre-Production: Building the Set (part 1)
Flaps Theatre is my new live performance / series of micro-short films about a variety of cunt experiences, presented from within a giant vagina
I will be performing this new work live at Sunday Servix on May 4th as part of Dandifest 2014, and releasing the films later in the year. Follow #FlapsTheatre on Twitter for updates.
I knew I would need help with building the set for this performance, so was glad when my talented friend Henry Alderson volunteered to assist. I had made some rough designs for a wooden triangular frame that I could build up with cardboard flaps but after discussion we decided to go for a much easier and more sturdy MDF structure.
Henry cut the MDF shapes for me and attached all the fixings so it’s ready for me to bolt together easily on site. I then used PVA as a primer, with two undercoats of watered down white emulsion before colouring with acrylic paint.
I have now started work on the cardboard flaps and decorations which will be transported seperately and attached on the day, to avoid damage. I like that with the MDF we have a nice curvy structure but I can still keep the DIY style by using cardboard and papier mache attachments and props.
